At Menu Guide we refer to the links that menus are attached to as ‘short links’. Often these get confused with QR codes. It’s important to know the difference in terminology as we use the term ‘short link’ throughout this documentation and our systems.
A Short Link is: A URL #
A URL is a web address that specifies the location of a resource on the internet. It typically starts with “http://” or “https://” followed by the domain name.
A short link is a condensed version of a web URL that redirects you to the original, longer URL.
Short links are useful for sharing links in contexts where character count or space is limited, such as social media posts or text messages. They can also be easier to remember, making return visits easier to perform (e.g. mnu.mx/juliescafe).
Menu Guide urls (short links) are always in the format https://mnu.mx/(unique name to identify your menus)
How Menu Guide uses short links #
When you create a menu with Menu Guide, you’ll be able to add your menu to a short link making it easier for your customers to find your menu on the internet.
Once your menu has been created, you can download a QR code with this short link embedded, meaning your customers can scan the QR code with their phones and be directed to your menu instantly.
QR Code (Quick Response Code) #
A QR code is a two-dimensional barcode that can store information such as text, URLs or other data. It can be scanned using a smartphone or QR code reader to access the embedded information.
Short links and QR Codes #
A QR code contains a short link in its encoded data. When scanned, the QR code redirects the user to the specified URL, allowing quick access to your menu.
